fasting is essential for spiritual vitality. Oh no not fasting !!! When self control which is the fruit of the spirit is lacking in almost every area of your life the answer is the FAST
Galatians 5:23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
You have self control, it was given to you along with all the other fruits in seed form when you were born again. Like anything God gives you, it must be practiced, used, and developed as you grow up in Him.
Self control at its optimal use produces perseverance which then produces godliness in our character. And holiness is the qualifying factor to see God.
2 Peter 1:6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
Hebrews 12:14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.
Lost control over your mouth, just letting it say anything it wants to? FAST
Lost control of your thoughts? Just letting your mind think on what ever it wants : FAST
Eating what ever your flesh say it wants : FAST
Emotions going crazy and overwhelming : FAST
Unanswered prayer : FAST
Spiritually dry no hunger or revelation, no daily bread : FAST
I knew it was time for me to fast as I was guzzling dans chips because I had already finished mine !!!!! Well not only that but because we have entered the season the devil ramps up his destructive activity.
A lacking in self control makes a person weakened to the temptation of Satan.
Talking within the context of marriage intimacy paul said
1 Corinthians 7:5 Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
Fasting is a sure fire way to kill the lust of the flesh and stir up your spiritual hunger.
Fasting not only strengthen self control, it breaks off limitations, undoes demonic strongholds, brings breakthrough and quickens the maturing of our faith.
Fasting was a way the Old Testament saints called “humbling” them selves.
Ezra 8:21 Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions.
Psalm 35:13 But as for me, when they were sick, My clothing was sackcloth; I humbled myself with fasting; And my prayer would return to my own heart.
We are promised that if we humble ourselves God lifts us up. The lifting up of God, the healing, the restoring, the setting things right requires a humbling.
James 4:10 NKJV
[10] Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
Luke 14:11 NKJV
[11] For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
Matthew 18:4 NKJV
[4] Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Then of course this most famous scripture in prayer circles for the healing of our nation, is often quoted without reference to FASTING: which is the required recipe for humbling.
2 Chronicles 7:14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
